With Gwendolyn Causer, educator at Audubon Vermont; Trish O’Kane, Lecturer in Environmental Science; and Luis Vivanco, Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Humanities Center
UVM Professor of Anthropology Luis Vivanco describes birds as “good to think with” as we consider our relationship with the natural world and with other species. Vivanco will moderate a conversation with Audubon Vermont educator Gwendolyn Causer and Trish O’Kane, who directs the Birding to Change the World program at UVM, who will each discuss how they facilitate educational opportunities to learn about birds. Vivanco will draw on his own ethnographic research on the symbolic role of birds in environmental movements and historical research on the representation of birds, especially penguins, in wildlife films.
